About the Artist

Josiah Shoger

I'm a graphic designer, drummer, gamer, and digital artist from Columbia, Maryland.

My passion is digital art and pop culture, and most of my work reflects that. I work primarily with my iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, using Procreate for my digital paintings. I also use Photoshop quite regularly for larger or more precise projects.

My love of digital art started in community college, where I dedicated myself to narrowing down my career path. Over time, and through a few jobs and internships, I narrowed my field of study to graphic design, where I hope to work someday.

I'm most inspired by the work of Steve Jobs, Jony Ive, and Mike Mignola. The coolest part of my job is when my designs are noticed by the people I depict in them. My artwork has been praised by celebrities such as Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Castle, The Suicide Squad, Destiny 2), Doug Jones (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, The Shape of Water), James Gunn (Director of The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, Guardians of the Galaxy), Arnel Pineda (Lead singer of Journey), Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy), Gina Carano (The Mandalorian), and Merle Dandridge (Half-Life game series).

My Experience

May 2021 - present

Tech Consultant

Target Corporation

At Target, I ran the entire tech and electronics section of the Target store either by myself or with one other co-worker, doing all of our own backstocking, restocking, cleaning, and selling. I gained a deeper knowledge of products ranging from Apple products to video game consoles, in order to engage with and form relationships with customers, to better understand what product was right for them.

May 2020 - August 2020

Business Development Intern

Red Hat, Inc.

At Red Hat, I worked with and for the vice president of Business Development. I developed and produced various forms of slide decks, graphics, and logos for internal and external use, I edited, updated, and restructured internal business reports, and I created a template for future use. I attended meetings, worked with a team of peers, and helped troubleshoot technology issues.

April 2019 - December 2020

Freelance Graphic Designer

The Colson Center

At the Colson Center, I created flyers, posters, and other digital media both from scratch and from templates.
I primarily used Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator to create media, and I kept track of hours and billing.

July 2018

Graphic Design Intern

EcoPrint

At EcoPrint, I observed and followed the CEO as he went through the day-to-day tasks of each department. I created new graphics for official flyers and posters, both from scratch and using a template, with Photoshop and Illustrator. I also updated the company’s logo with Illustrator to create cleaner lines and colors.
